Una de les principals raons de la pèrdua de la biodiversitat en el món és la invasió d’animals i plantes en zones fora de la seva distribució natural que afecta el desenvolupament dels ecosistemes ocupats. Però la seva distribució exacta és poc coneguda i, a voltes, és imprescindible per evitar la seva expansió. IASTracker és una aplicació mòbil per localitzar espècies invasores en cada regió definida i que permet consultarne la ubicació arreu del món en un geoportal.

L’aplicació mòbil IASTracker permet identificar espècies exòtiques invasores (IAS, del seu acrònim en anglès) en el territori a partir de la comparació de l’espècie a les imatges i continguts de l’aplicació. Així, a Catalunya, podem identificar l’atzavara en els marges, camps i jardins, la cotorra argentina en els jardins de les grans ciutats o el musclo zebra a les aigües de la nostra xarxa hidrogràfica, com exemples de casos emblemàtics.
Els tècnics experts en la matèria, els investigadors, els estudiants i els ciutadans en general podran entrar les observacions d’IAS. L’increment d’observacions i la seva localització poden donar un servei a les autoritats i grups de recerca que, des de fa anys, treballen per a la preservació de la biodiversitat i per detectar les zones afectades d’IAS.
